Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World with Matt Storm
Below is a rough automated transcript of the episode. We are working on making this better:
oh my God no never likes my jokes anymore I guess I'm done. if I drop any more from that statement audio sorry I love you I wish I could give you a hug in person it was just right there at like you can't you can't if I had that button up from Austin Powers dr. evil button where it was thrown into the pit of flames you'd be there if there was any one of the show who it could possibly rig up a situation like that it probably be you turn on the one person defending you right now that was a cold a deep cut. Khaja still there you're the defending him he was burning him hard father you can't just you should have known by now you can't like hold that pinata up in front of my face and not expect me to smack it speaking of replacing Pat have a great Gaston today joining us from the network hello mat hello I'm glad to be back audio on the episode that was foretold in the Legends Minecraft review for years audio you may not do this without me if it wasn't clear from my my intro the movie today oh that's what you were doing audio I thought you're doing a cowboy it was he was he was doing John Wayne and part of like the quintessential John Wayne parody caricature impersonation is you call someone pilgrim honestly to be fair to Brett that was a very good touchdown and we should have connected those dots butt right over my head a white female Millennial I've seen so many John Wayne movies absolutely that's like I mean that's like The Stereotype right totally pumpkin spice John Wayne I heard pump and spice and I was like do we have to wear pumps obviously but which ones pump and which ones to buy I was trying to think of a band that had pump in the title cover like you only do covers of the Spice Girls Spice Girls and then whatever that band you only do Spice Girls and Smashing Pumpkins some shows are divided into two very different halves after audience leaves genres so different yes that is what happened at a concert that we attended are you there now when it was Mars Volta Bono or System of a Down it was packed for Mars Volta and then everyone bounce ever like what didn't you go for System of a Down to I thought I remembered hours like a normal person well there's Mars Volta and System of a Down and that was that was a dope concert and then we would have Mars Volta Red Hot Chili Peppers yeah that was weird concert are you the lineup of the first concert I ever went to was kind of weird and all over the place is very of the time the big alternative rock station in Chicago is q101 they're still do it but they had a concert every holidays like at the end of the year called Twisted for Christmas so whenever I want I would like 7th or 8th grade is my first concert I mean I'm going to say the bands and it'll tell you yes Portland represent 311 I would like the big headliner was The Cure must have been like in the late 80s early 90s right as late 90s radio station lineup right yeah okay. Doesn't make any sense for anything but just like the radio station sure yeah play The Cure I feel like I have a very long career in established and like what those other ones are Barry of the time especially those I feel like there was a time. We're like 311 would play anything though audio every like did you say they're always there I like 311 name another Chumbawamba song I can't name any Chumbawamba song they have never huge overseas here they only had two hits and I can't remember the name of the second single there was a song There was a follow-up single off that album after tub some tub-thumping and I only know that because my dad my dad used to get monthly like radio DJ compilation he was friends with the DJ and so it would always be like the radio hits every month I remember later that year we got one that had their follow-up single that didn't break his biggest tub-thumping but I can't audio I'm like Googling it trying to find it and I'm fighting it stub something but sit Amnesia is that it the only other thing that comes up speaking of one hit wonder music hits Scott Pilgrim there's a lot of stuff from the soundtrack that I listen to a lot that we're not songs and that would that were played on the radio or anything this is just like a banger soundtrack that was like only for this yeah it does the soundtracks ridiculous the cast is ridiculous I know I'm sure Matt you have a lot you want to talk about here or doing it I thought movies had to be at least 10 years old this movie is by the time this episode comes out will be 10 years old they came out in 2010 yeah yeah if you're listening to this on release day 10 years unreleased I have acquired a time machine right foot and I'm listening hot dog audio I got myself into show rails what are they audio directed by Edgar Wright writers are creditors Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall but also the credited as Bryan Lee O'Malley who wrote the Edgar Edgar Wright you say a great like a like a man in Black is wearing a corset audio Denny okay Rite Aid on 1st don't don't make fun of my Midwest accent breath all right appreciate if you're going to do that I'm going to go back to John Wayne tired of it audio crazy stacked Michael Cera in the titular role Alison Pill I always forget audio yeah there's so many more Jason Schwartzman Ellen Wong small Rosy recognized Chris Evans Captain America on 12th Brandon Mae Whitman audio tons of people audio recognized the cast is stacked front to back I remember when I went inside the the midnight showing for this at the new Beverly and Liam Ali was there and Brie Larson was there for a Q&A and everybody avocados like and like nobody had a single question for real this is an early roll for her like you've done other stuff but this was like her first big movie overwhelmed I just knowing where she ended up as a psych that's if it looking back of the Cutlass I missed opportunity for everyone this whole past like looking like all the superhero like Brandon Rosen already been Superman by this point but Chris Evans had not been Captain America he had been Human Torch in those gas he has he had been human but nobody remembers this audio no they're not what's funny also about the soundtrack what I thought was fascinating is that all three of the members of sex will bomb they were cast because they could act but also because they could play those instruments They're all playing They're all playing those actual parts I'm in all of the music for sex will bomb as well as I think one or two other songs on the soundtrack Ramona Haswell are all written by acted all of the writing for and also for crashing the boys they're fake songs in the song competition all that music hello much like the at the last John Claude Van Damme I'm pretty sure that I read the guy that isn't Scott Pilgrim and that's in the band that the bass player whatever I actually played bass when they when he picked up the bass to play and they had to do a Sarah Wright audio is Michael Cera actually play bass so well he had to tone it down audio Target REI earn for the role yeah everyone else had to learn yeah yeah everyone in this sector Bob and had to learn except Michael Cera who was too good and had to tone it down wow interesting Stephen Stills played by forgetting his neck remember his name now the actor but also Alison Pill was taught to play drums and still plays drums to this day not a ton but like knows how to play drums because of this movie axelrad like 990f the trivia that if I was interesting is all stuff that I feel like I should wait still after because it's kind of spoilery audio this is one of those interesting is the comic was not finished at the time they were shooting come up with an ending different endings that's why Bryan Lee O'Malley is credited as a writer sort of has he helped them and the story that's why from the like the midpoint of the movie on it diverges so practically from the comics is because the comics are still being written this movie took quite likes like 8 years or something sexy ass a long time shows you it is possible as long as you have reference for the source material and you work with the Creator and I know you actually give a s*** about the project you can finish a cinematic cinematic adaptation of a written thing is not finished and make it good HBO HBO audio Miami city was Israel wanted it to be a little bit longer and give them time to flush it out and it was the two gentlemen who shall not be named it's like yeah we're done with this yeah I've heard that too motherfuking went off book Psych season 4 like anyway we should we should yeah but we don't want it to be longer and then HBO shows like I mean yeah sure we're making like tens of millions of dollars in episode but like yeah sure ended early whatever like probably wanted to get them big Netflix or Star Wars contracts it both the evaporator or something I guess big they've loved the end of The Game of Thrones so bad that no one wants to work with them now they don't talk about it audio while everyone is like working their ass off to make everything they create is perfect as possible just like motherfukers yeah we had the worst character decision you could during the me-too movement but okay yeah I remember we went and watched one of the things that a viewing party and play the the whatever that with behind-the-scenes was you know after the show which we had never watched before what do you want to hear what they what they thought about what they were writing this and it's like no not really played it and it just like oh man felt like there was so much more definite than what they explained like you made it worse by explaining it yeah it's one of those like never meet your Heroes sort of things just like never I'll never ask the creator of the art what their intent was cuz it won't live up especially if you like hold it up to a certain pedestal one of the reasons I was so emphatic about coming back to the show Once I found out that y'all love this movie as well is that Picture Perfect representation of my life in video game form in the fact that movie Forum in the fact that jokester for me the music is for me acting is for me the dial all of this stuff is written in a way that it was like it was made for me and it wasn't was made for a match math I felt so close to this material in a way that no other movie that ever met and made me feel like you had you had to fight to the death all your spouse's exes before you guys to get married That Old Chestnut Channel Chestnut but yeah I know it's really amazing that that it's been 10 years since this movie came out that there has been some love recently Ford as I sent Pat not too long ago they did a cast reading which has become popular during the corona times it's on a cat they do the cats reading for charity with most of the actress present which is pretty cool to see so technically I've heard the lines since I last watched it but I haven't audio open up the corona times worst f****** newspaper in the world before 2020 though it would have sounded like a chill Island newspaper where they drop you off here Detroit liquor on a x was that the newspaper like if someone handed it to me I guess I'd read it is that the alternate timelines with the Berenstain Bears yeah they're Coronavirus what's a good guideline yeah we're done in the dark bad audio my bad was right I bet called it all those years ago audio dammit Danny Pudi audio I mean like is play Denis cool things for the character development cuz all these characters even though a lot of them there's so many turn out on a lot of them don't have a ton of screen time but I feel like all of them Lasting Impressions in a very distinct and I think that's one thing I really liked about it I wanted to do was they handed out crib sheets to each actor to help them push up the character and everyone had a 10 secret things about each character that only like their character new and one of those very interesting that informs a lot was I was giving Aubrey Plaza her character Julie told her that she has had a longtime crush on Scott audio I recently saw a thing that was posting about how like all of the different axes are wearing something to indicate you know like which number they are on their shirts or clothing or whatever and I thought that was pretty cool also something to watch for the movie is there scene-setting with each number as well like the one that I always remember is Roxy Richter is 5 after the twins are or know she's for eye thing the club that they're going into before that fight happens there's a four Portland Todd Ingram is wearing a three on his shirt yeah it's it was smart smart design and I think that exists in the comic to It's Been Awhile for all the times that I've watched this movie I've not read the comics through as much I have read them several times but like it's been awhile but I think those hints are in there too have you played the game oh my God have I played the game so much fun the thing that drives me crazy all right we'll go on a brief Video Game Ranch that bread I'm sure we'll cut down immensely but since I am also a game podcast are on our own network I might as well do this so Scott Pilgrim versus the World the game the game that was created when the movie came out to release in tandem with the movie it was a classic arcade style beat him up what took place through the course of the movie what was really great about that game is the soundtrack was done by the phenomenal band Anamanaguchi r888 like a text based 8-bit band like and they did a whole original score for the game and it was wild it was one of the best beat em up games ever made the agreement was with universal and they were rights linked to Xbox and Playstation to put these games out on their consoles once the contract was up I pulled the game now unless you have a unless you have it downloaded to your Xbox which is offline or your PS3 which is offline you can no longer redownload that games you have it you but it is now no longer available anywhere lost the rights to it yeah the game company that made it lost the rights Universal after the contract was up was like that's it you've DePaul Biscayne people have been clamoring for re-release on modded consoles like imagine how great that game would be on the switch it would look beautiful on the switch it's if they just they can't the developers can't the movie hereafter adjust before the movie what was out the 10-year of the movie and after I think part of the problem is that notoriously this movie time man found huge success post-release you know Moana DVD got it got cold status but in bombed in the box office it didn't I don't I mean a little bit I didn't regret it was in the lot of it is chalked up to the marketing team didn't know what to do audio familiar Princess Bride How to Train Your Dragon I want to see the trailer for it cuz that's what they do just like that the movie Guy voice like Scott Pilgrim versus the world I wouldn't want to see it or How to Train Your Dragon there's literally a dragon in the name you just I know that everything for the first one they they royally messed it up and thank God the mommy blogger saved it and like got the word out that it was a good movie audio the budget was an estimated 16 million on this six60 opening weekend USA to 10.6 million notoriously victoriously Edgar Wright I had said in interviews that he wanted to advertise it a certain way but Universal was worried that those advertisements wouldn't speak to people so instead they try to Market it like a romantic comedy which is what the movie is but that's not what it's about it's a video game the video game in real life with like hijinx and action and like they were just afraid they wouldn't be like they would be able to pull the Right audience and so yeah the trailers I remember seeing the trailers in the only reason I was interested as to the video game sound effects in the trailer and so I'd then looked it up and I had a Savvy friend was like oh this is a great, you should read it until like I thought in the theaters read the entire comics in like a sitting and then side like four more times unfortunately mainstream crowds just weren't interested audio how to say like there's like a like free guy like it's totally leading into the fact that it's a video iMovie if it was marketed today years before its time really I would argue like even 5 years later done gangbusters I guess I know how you do a seagull seagull can probably do really well are rumors that there's going to be in anime an anime sequel like an animated person but nothing's concrete yet I saw an article from a somewhat reputable source but Edgar Wright's is in talks to do more of the stock of improper I guess I just feel like you know I'm not going to say Edgar Wright but he's done a lot of really cool stuff and I feel like but the news I hear it like best they didn't want to let him advertise at the way he wanted and then the whole Ant-Man thing people trying to hire at your right and then like not letting him do what he wants to do I feel like more than most people like more than most directors he seems to have a full grasp of I think he wants to make and also had to tell people about it Italian creative person and you hire them to do a job let him f****** do the job Lord & Taylor who did the first Lego movie or hired for solo one of the start late and then they got audio I think like solos down toward the bottom of the chain of all the Starwars if you're going to hire a you should know you're getting cuz you can see the work they've done right that's going to tell you a little bit about what they're going to bring to the table and if you decide the right person for the job what time do the job then an answer for you and it's f****** heartbreaking yeah I was going to get it is the most infuriating thing about Hollywood is that the people that control the money are not creative but they have egos bigger than every creative and they are convinced because they stuck their fingers in the pie it was successful because of their hands airport because they have the money they can pull the strings and make decisions and they are 100 onvinced that they know better than every creative that they hire audio frustrating as hell the SS successes though is the boat that sinks like every time a project CEO te when I get involved and it sings it's terrible it's a Disney it's a reoccurring problem that be seen in animation like Lion King and Pocahontas we're going on at the same time and everyone was like set stupid lion movie I don't want to touch it and the creators were left alone and the Pocahontas had all of the executives in it and they got water down and it sucked I like Lilo & Stitch they literally like Su torious being that little off shoe at the Florida Studio they had a really good executive he was like okay just give the other Executives just enough to show that it's going but don't tell them too much don't make them too interested I'm so that Chris Sanders is able to do what he wanted but you act like Hyde from Executives or they will ruin it it's like a weird weird Catch-22 like you couldn't you'll never have a movie 100 0ood bad as it could have been with like the unlimited funding of good because by the time it gets to that point I can stupid ass people want to be involved yeah I just have this conversation cuz I've been in the Gen Con Festival this weekend and doing some panels and I just did the directors panel and we were talking about afterwards they had this like green room on Discord honest one person was like why do producers get the fire directors and I was like well because the producers the one usually funding audio while they're like they're not creative people and I was like true but they think that they are they sometimes they are and then yeah they hire the director and so if the dress is not doing what they want will fire though I mean excellent least like a producer higher chance of you having a good producer but like when you get into Studio exact like Jordan Peele he's he's technically an executive producer but he's a creative okay you get a green pass like you're good but then you get like other people that don't know what the f*** they're doing people that don't know what they're doing and all of a sudden you've got if you have use for a million lying around I would gladly like to pitch you a five minute call me Jeff call me Tay k yeah yeah audio you might be excited to hear where is an article from July of this year that it has been teased of a re-release for Scott Pilgrim versus the World the game Night by the composer audio you should get it at 6 good game it's so fun and what's really cool about the art style of the game is so how's this was a comic book was graphic novel and they will in the flashbacks in the movie if you've seen it they use the comic book art they use Bryan Lee O'Malley work it looks like it looks like it it's actually Oscar right Oscar write his brother did it specifically to look like the, and as an internal massage to it but so so the games also mimic the style of that art and it looks great and like seeing those Sprites and motion looking they look like Super Nintendo Sprites but there they're too advanced for that they're too graphically detailed for that but it is in that homage and genre and error and it's yeah it's perfect if I could buy an arcade machine of that game I would put that in my home right husband the video game stuff there if there's too many to count like it's literally the whole thing all the way through cuz I really cut my teeth as a youngin on original Legend of Zelda and Ramona's hair color if you'll remember changes a couple of times throughout the movie and they correspond with CF three goddesses from the original Legend of Zelda I never heard a ruin green also I have another piece of trivia if you watch in the opening scenes of the movie when we first meet knives young meals play original DS the old school bigger silver one when she closes the DS and talks about like that's a big question there's no game in the system if you look and so that's obviously clear that the the actor probably didn't play video games or even if he did he was handed and so there was no game in it I remember the first time I saw that I was heartbroken so obvious most electrically kusuma like the casca's are in this was like super gaming most actually aren't however one who is very notable was Brandon route navigate me at all he audio said he has poured hundreds upon hundreds of hours into World of Warcraft World of Warcraft and plays a lot of video games yeah I'm real close to starting my WOW account audio first came out I was all aboard and I never I got off I got clean before the first expansion ever had all the way to like max level answer that Bernie Crusaders effort was coming I just felt like an hour mining for f****** silver or whatever it is Manhattan that didn't stop me I played all the way through the expansion that added The Mists of Pandaria which added monks in the panda race which well-known in the Warcraft games the original RTS and then I stopped after that I came back to expansions later played for a while Minnie Mouse classic about recently I tried to play that and it's god-awful the original base game that people like old on this pedestal it's so slow and so clunky but going back to it is not fun my friends who've been playing at the Quai used to roll in the original game with play with are all loving it I'm just like I had a brief metal back in the water that world now with wow exist anymore but they did a Warhammer online I'm not really really liked now I really like the way more like PVP heavy Aeropostale I just like grinding and stuff and I was the fastest way you can level up was actually fighting other people because I was more Dynamic where it's at is Total War Warhammer obviously but that an RPG or is at I mean technically we're not stopping cuz it's very heavy video game movie but man I could f****** an old school like God blood like God you RCS like like command or are you the original Age of Empires old school Starcraft I don't want that Starcraft movie it needs to go that's no good audio I do want to start a Starcraft 2 clan Starcraft 2 I'm just not a big RTS. audio what's the problem with Starcraft 2 is that it wasn't starcrash that's the problem with Starcraft 2 is it was never going to be that first game and so like it was never going to hold up the way the first game day but they knew that and then they also really really stood for the first game for the people who are going to be happy with the new one and still no one was happy Last of Us 2 I haven't played it yet I haven't played it yet has an SDS audio he's their own Ivan infinite Runner type what time this episode airs the first of Ashes side quest episode should be up pause bread is already done one on The Unfinished Swan which I want to give copy of that audio yeah it's it's you talking about it made me want to play it and it's not available anywhere right now a really fun PS 4 for ten bucks is it not I'll try I didn't see it last time I look but yeah like it was yeah so I do aside a separate video games or what gets into this in the promo stuff what else do we need to know about the movie there's just a ton of fun I recommend like it was just like crazy mind-blowing to just lots of very little interesting tidbits age stuff is interesting to me because other people are portrayed but like pretty close in age that was funny was 22 years old his sister Stacy is 18 in real life Michael Cera is 3 years younger than Anna Kendrick actually three years older than Michael Cera yeah. there's there's stuff that I do you want to get into the whole life do we think it'll hold up cuz this is this everyone seen this right this is a movie where everyone audio yeah and this is one of those like ones my sister and I really like him we caught a lot the most its way up there for me is one of the most quotable movies I'm obnoxious when watching this cuz I could recite the movie from start to finish when it came out when it first came out on DVD who's back when DVDs were paired with Blu-ray and digital downloads like you got all three in one package and so like at the time I didn't have a Blu-ray player play a DVD player so my best friend of the time in May keep talk with me we're the same age actually he's actually 6 days older than me audio but we split it and he took a Blu-ray and he gave me the DVD and digital copy if you would getting the Blu-ray which is valued more back then I had an iPod classic that you can play videos on but screen during my lunch break every day at work I would watch half of the movies I bought the first half and then the next day and watch the second half and then I broke it again back like 4 weeks after it came out I was so obsessed with it like I just watched it constantly I also been spent a good part of like 5 years not watching it at all but I watched it a lot when I when it first came out from release audio it was super popular like it came out I think all of us in our friends went and saw in the theater possibly multiple times and then that whole lake year after it came out I was interning at DreamWorks so I had like an hour long drive to work and I carpool with my friend everyday it was the soundtrack audio temperature Jessie from the DuckTales episode I was going to say and another fun fact the song Scott Pilgrim off the soundtrack the song Ramona here we're going to saying all the songs are on there because those are the songs that influence Bryan Lee O'Malley and naming those character Arabic do you know those very much influenced characters and the design of the movie I believe he it's not picked the soundtrack helped like with the music director to assemble the soundtrack I'm one of those bands is the he's wearing right that you're wearing so yes they're not on the soundtrack, and but yeah the design of the shirt that no one can see but I'm holding up for the zoo for the call bspn the heart is a smashing pumpkins shirt but his shirt in the movie is a special one the back of my shirt but if you look in the movie when he turns around it doesn't say that on the back it's also his initials right Scott Pilgrim smashing pumpkins audio I think we should do predictions for the flu get like dance around talking about this movie but I want to like watch it and getting a lot to talk about in the second half I'm talking already might as well Vise grip the momentum right I think I'm going to enjoy it has to be a lot of fun very nostalgic and the one thing I say is I think they'll be a few things that Minot AFB nothing too egregious we're not going to like Scott that much I think I really like the movie at the grill like like a lot of the performances are going to be very fun and enjoyable but I think if you get down to it I don't I don't thanks Scott is going to hold up to be that like Willamette dude is there any kind of a dick is the movie like he was kind of a wet blanket of like I like you but not enough to fight for you but I know I'm forced to fight for you I guess I'm going to do it like my watery memory of it what a wet blanket does describe a teenage boy so yeah teenage boys teenage boy my prediction I'd say is some of the jokes on hold up I remember there being a little bit of fat shaming in it which though if I'm remembering the movie correctly it was for the characters to not be redeemable in that moment like they were meant to be shity in that moment when they make those jokes but that also could be my brain protecting me audio why don't I remember like only the bad guys being kind of you see insects sexist I feel like I mean in my heart I know the only redeemable character in the entire movie is going to be knives everyone else is a shitheel except for knives Chau but we'll see if that actually holds up that's my memory of it you leave us alone Wallace is not a good person he's a lot of things but not a good person I'll still be entertained I mean I never stop listening to the soundtrack even if I have to watch the movie in awhile it's one of my favorite all-time soundtracks and we'll get more into that I think in this in the post movie part but I think it'll be fun I think I think I think I'm still going to love so I seen this movie a few times a definitely more of the viewings where when it first came out then anytime later definitely I don't think we've seen it probably in timer 6 years at least at least we have listened the soundtrack lot but one thing I've spent probably more time doing then actually watching Scott Pilgrim audio the Twitter conversations and the online essays about people talking about it and the is a couple of one specifically that I remember remember that movie think about this and there's going to be definitely a thing couple of things that are like super problem Scott Pilgrim I think everyone has agreed to just be like working a car lap but I'm I'm I'm looking forward to talking about it when we get back cuz it sounds like everybody's aware that there's some stuff is maybe a couple of things that are going to be like never thought about it that way I forgot I do really enjoy this movie and I'm looking forward to watching I think it's going to be massively entertaining I look forward to talking about the original ending audio Yai love this movie I think I've seen it fairly recently I want to say baby in the past 3 years or so but I am a hater. audio I think initially side AMC Theaters with Brett I think you dragged me to this movie like I didn't necessarily know anything about it and you're like hey you got to not sure I am Bryce to see it and you're like you got to come see this movie and I'm a huge a great fan like Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite films and what I'm looking forward to in this film is the transitions and I can't remember if it's every frame a painting or if it was another Channel I did a video all about like Edgar Wright transitions in this film there are so many layers and details to a every second transition that you never would realize unless you like broke it down like this person did but it's it's just crazy like just so much detail went into even just choosing to pan from left to right into the next Lake scene so emmenegger right eye feel like is one of those filmmakers that has just this raise the amount of attention to detail that makes this film so good and stylized and so I'm super excited for that I don't know if it's the same problematic things you were talking about Brett but there is one problematic thing that I have read about before curious to see how I feel about it mystery watch and I don't necessarily remember the other problematic things I'm hoping is not as problematic as The Birdcage was where I was like oh no the whole plot of this movie problematic I mean thinking about what I'm thinking about maybe yes but maybe oh no I was like I have Rose Colored Glasses on I don't remember this at all but is it oh no it's what I think it is right it's not your fault is one of Sam's Dutch braid but but but not exact soundtrack is amazing I will maintain the version of black sheep in this song is yes version of black sheet that I way better and did you know Brie Larson sings that audio best version of me that it is it's so good like it I love it and kills me but you can't get it I know not available you can find it on YouTube somewhere because I do but like you know I wish I could put it in a playlist or scab you know I know and that's where youtube-dl the terminal based the YouTube downloader audio files converter comes in there are sites we can take you do have this technology I do appreciate that they did eventually release a YouTube video of the full performance I think for like one of the anniversary is where the movie it's just a short clip of her performing at the Big Dave released like they film the music video for it Grande released that where it's just her doing the full performance which is pretty neat it's on Apple music to so you can listen to it that way but the sound is absolute garbage like it's not high quality is not and I don't know why one final fun fact before we go to watch the movie the drummer sorry Sam after that I thought you she'd gone to bat no no no no no no Sonos amp please your thoughts about the movie I guess no I won't forget how you watched it cuz you were telling us how you and your friend group all us oh I think that I we thought yeah yes I've been saving this movie for the podcast Herbalife shooting winners pinata there might be a joke inside for the podcast since we've said that we are doing the podcast don't think I've watched it in almost 10 years very excited watch it again I have kind of cheated in like listen to the soundtrack and every now and then. Black Sheep song get stuck in my head and I have to listen to it when I go down a whole Scott Pilgrim like I just remember this film being incredibly fun it was kind of in that weird are aware like indie films but with like real film budgets were coming out it has like that I don't know how to describe it was riding the money high of like Little Miss Sunshine like and everyone let's put money in the Indy it has that like small movie feel but like what those movies all want to be if they had like a big-budget so it has great effects like great music great cast so I'm really excited about it I honestly I wouldn't be thinking anything negative right now except I've listened to all y'all s*** socket so and it's one of those things we'll talk about it after but like the soundtrack is so integral to the film like it it is built around the music which I love like a lot of my favorite movies they leave space for the music and this movie does it extremely well so are you sing something in my brain saying thank you cuz Edgar Wright has said that he envisioned this and he shot it and play what did here was I made a musical but instead of stopping the plot to break into song we break into a fight Australia fighting you're saying before Sam like you listen to soundtrack a lot and always remind you of the movie like for I could buy the movie to the soundtrack of course comes out when the movie releases not when it's available at home I would listen to the soundtrack and clearly remember the scenes from the movie based on the songs of the soundtrack and those are the most important soundtracks to me for movies of the ones that do that to you whether it's a score that does it or actual pops answer yeah I agree wholeheartedly I think the music is easily one of the strongest parts of the movie for sure right you're reminding me I did just say f*** it and just was like I'm going to watch it anyway audio add my final fun fact before we break is the drummer in in Envy's band clash of the demonhead is a major character in the comic books and she's a cyborg with two robotic arms in the, in the movie she barely has any appearance other than backstage and Beverly and Juan stage look at her arms tell me if you can notice because they are supposed to be here about she supposed to have robotic arms in the movie 2 tell me if you can see them very hard to spot so keep an eye out for that during The Clash of demonhead before that's something that's like a major plot point in the comics like I think Scott fights her at one point and she has like stretchy robotic arms like go go gadget kind of style I thought you're going to say he like a ripped her arms off and that's no no no no no no no no no no audio audio play the drums so much better all right what about math that was that your fat audio taking my seat belt off or record all right well now we're going to pause the show I am going to watch ourselves a little bit of Scott Pilgrim see y'all when we get back audio audio Hattiesburg yeah to the yellow and everything and you did and I loved it I really appreciate it that really loud that was excellent thank you for that so is Scott a criminal cousin murdered people well no not that that yes the universe exists in a way where they don't ask about results like they just accept that people sometimes Die video game style like there seems to be no repercussions in that world are you going to Google the thing that you're trying to know audio it wasn't killing people what was the thing age of consent Canada a 22 year old dating a 17 year old day it's just you don't have sex statutory is about sex you just make her 18 but still in high school and it's still creepy and you can still make fun of them but it's not that it's not I don't know it's it's always going to be creepy or old dating like 12 year old and it wasn't about sex audio I want to talk about that cuz that's right out the gate as early as a dresser early but it's like is funner conversation bad but it is something to talk about they reference in the movie and it's like they think that absolves them but they're playing it as a joke I don't I don't know if it's okay I doesn't feel okay though audio 522 + 17 it's 5 years here's the thing though like okay so I used to think that sort of thing was like really weird but like I have friends who are like 8 or 10 years apart from their partner at what age what age does the flat be weird are you if its 22 year old dating a tax year old 14 smaller portion of your life the older you get the older you get the age Gap can widen it's still widens as you still technically fine but I'm saying like is it much bigger difference even if you're both in your twenties a 22 year old dating a 29 year old 7 years that's a lot longer 7 years I feel like audio 32 year old dating a 39. I'll be the one on the list I feel like with Scott like Scott even admits like we just holding hands once it was cute like he also is in this relationship I think because he know he doesn't want to do anything anything like I think I think the ideas but he feel safe in this relationship because there's no expectation of the older guy to make any moves but I think he's doing he doesn't have to do anything doesn't have to come in today yeah like it's very clear like in their subjects that he is only with her because she idolizes him so he has such a like devastated sense of self-worth that he needs somebody that's like a fangirl to him to build him back up again and that's ultimately why I mean for me the more problematic things if you want to get the problematic stuff out of the way first as at leaving living in 2020 is have genders handled in this movie how sexuality is handled in this movie write like a jokes what was that a joke I mean makes sense sort of right like Bernard he's controlling the narrative that someone is gay flashlight Scott making gay jokes feels in poor taste and I mean they're quick and they are they are made so so Wallace can get back at him still feel little import a stand like the garlic bread makes you fat line like it's funny but also obviously it means contacts as bad as that which is not good or not I've constantly calling Ramona fat ass like jokes have not aged well cuz the implication there is just that fat equals bad which is not true audio VA Scott and Wallace stuff was like like peeing the bed I think it's like that it's okay if your Rising With Friends but like it would be super weird if it was like from one of the villains of the movie or something kind of a like French language that was mean don't like I've been in friend groups like that or friendly friendly that where it's like only to each other only so only it's different cuz we the audience can see that but in the clinical world it's only the two of them they can hear that and I've had friends like that were what will say some like awful things to each other but it's because we know there's nothing meant by it and at the end of the day like we would a hundred percent like be there for each other and love each other and yeah huge difference of route that and then was actually happening in this film though because Wallace never makes fun of him for being straight or like really jobs back in such a equal way do you like introduces him and says hey this is my gay roommate and you see Wallace's face like do you really have to say that you don't like it's clear that he doesn't like it and to me the worst offending line is when he's like I don't want you gain up the place and you can tell if that really bothered Wallace in that moment Wallace is taking any of it enough unfriendly way person jokes at State expense as well with like the Scott complaining about his romance trouble than he had the whole like we just pretend this is about a guy so I care I don't sound like the whole movie is making Scott out to be a bad person cuz he is that you identify with Scott you're a bad person he's a bad person most of the time hear that I think what the point of all of that also has to make Scott somewhat redeemable by then the movie right like he's learned something triangle movie he's a irredeemable jackass I think Scott talking that way about Wallace's part of that but yes it still feels import taste and they probably could have done it differently yeah I mean isn't it Wallace in the beginning the film or somebody in the beginning of cell mascot if he's an evil person straight up like that audio by the end of the film and he's a little bit better you received the very terrible Starsky and Hutch remake Snoop Dogg has a line in it or he says that moves you up a wrong in my book I put you at wrong one Spotify okay we can talk about this later Snoop Dogg is great genuinely most of the time yep so I think I think we leave quickly swept over with the flashlight the all of the dark things hiding in in this movie yeah I mean at night it's a glowing in the dark maybe they shouldn't have said any of that do you want to dress like to just a big like the whole I promise you no surprise that is this movie this movie is defend that in a weird way video games like a video game better sure but like like Princess Peach shirt your princess is in another castle like I feel like this whole thing is like no parody video games and so I feel like it makes sense I Okay so yes woman is priced but this movie does something a little different that makes it a little which is that she consents so she agrees to the relationship she gives him his phone number or her phone number and she's the one that makes the call that they're dating now she invites them into her house she invites him into her bed woman is priceless especially problematic for me when the woman is in a character and isn't a part of our own relationship with the man that just like one her which why do they do a good job of like kind of making a fight her like a fight with the exes a little more personal like it's take the feeding her ex's is almost like an allegory for like her getting over them especially with Killian I think you like she goes back to me she's like there's something he's got he's in my head you know it like literally in my head do I actually really liked it they added that nuance who is clean omash to the media like ash dad but it's also adding more layers of complexity that makes it not so offensive it's almost like a video game allegory for like when two new people start dating can you eventually do you have to go over your past relationships like it's baggage there things that you're going to take into this new relationship and it felt like that was kind of a fun way to portray healthy part of being in a relationship building on that I might even go as far as to say that woman that woman is prize wasn't actually a thing in the movie at all because he didn't winner at the end when it felt more like was a pretty like fun to watch like you said allegory for 4 like just a past abusive relationship like it was she wanted to be in a relationship with Scott he wasn't fighting to win her he was writing to help her like break away from a toxic EX yeah yeah yeah do you know when when he got the extra life he comes back and Gideon's like you know you want to fight me to win her and he's like no I want to fight you for me like not not to win her I want to fight you because I want to fight you which is which is a great line and a great thing that they've called that out in the movie because that's what so many people like to do when when you finally stand up for yourself cuz they will try to reframe argument as something ridiculous and that you shouldn't be doing okay I'm doing that but I'm not doing it for why you said that I'm doing it like f*** you and so they really made it a point of I like I like it anyway when people turn out bad arguments I think what's interesting about the gender side of it that doesn't totally work is like Todd punches not it's right and that's to show that he's a bad guy he did a woman but that's very gendered and meanwhile Roxy attacks Scott Roxy won't hit her because he won't hit a woman even if he's going to write Wonder Woman and even though he's been a douchebag for other reasons and then we're going to have to make him fight and then and then it just it's just really complicated and I and it's very bionaire of course movies back then we're doing outside the binary but not as much as they are now it's not as part of the conversation is it in now but I still watching it now I'm like this why the video game logic it shouldn't matter Scott Todd whoever should be hitting whoever cuz video game logic it's very gendered to say won't fight a tough woman but that's something that we talked about what you know about shity men's right activist of talked about that stuff if you want to be close like it's stupid it's a non-starter argument but like it'll be in a weird place in this movie I don't know that I hate it or I love it but it's definitely obvious that is very binary there's no non-binary no transgender in this world it's just men and women straight gay or bi there's nothing else Beyond the thing I don't like about it is they make it like he says I can't hit a girl what it feels like Edgar Wright is trying to say it's okay that he hits a girl because Ramon is controlling him when he does it and that feels weird and gross likes different which is like shouldn't be a big deal like she's an evil he has two fighter what he want phone up so like remote is forcing him to do what he has to do that's why I read that like I didn't he wasn't like take my has a fight for me so easily good she's like you got to do it with your own Fist and like takes control because this is literally the only ex that the Ramona steps pin intervenes for and like before she does that she's the one that like blocks that hit and like fights her a little bit and it's like how come the girl is the one that you're willing to like fight and not the other ones you know before yeah it's a good question I think they could have solved it with like is giving a little bit of the backstory like it would make sense that like she has more positive relationships with women so she feels more able to stand up for herself and set boundaries but like not with men but I don't know well opposite of this scenario this fight in a Jet Li movie with Aaliyah Romeo Must Die oh yeah badass woman like Assassin trying to kill him and he's like I can't hit a woman so he is like holding Aaliyah's punching bag with her hands audio the temple feels worse another another thing about that scene that doesn't feel Maybe I might be missed call me out if I'm misreading this but all they had what was that number two hopefully so they had already played at V weird toxic masculinity like bro culture is a vice and it brought down Lucas Lee even in that scene they weren't playing it as like being virtuous and like I can't hit a girl it was definitely like play as a joke like are you serious you can't even like she's going to kill you audio it was almost like another another moment of him confronting like weird lead toxic elements of his personality or just like you're willing to fight for this girl endless Lake what's going on here the whole scene when he did that was played as a joke and not seriously whereas like Romeo Must Die definitely played it really like I cannot hit a girl at like it's probably was Fred Jett I believe it said they cannot hit a woman but audio play I feel so it might have been assuming that everything that was done in this movie was done 1000n purpose it might have been an attempt to like point out how ridiculous that toxic masculinity masculinity idea is it's definitely not clearly stated so there is room for interpretation you're a little bit but either way it does feel uncomfortable watching it this time where it's something I would never noticed in previous be like but you know what I want to talk about my personal favorite part of the movie is Lucas Lee audio everybody Chris Evans and what's so great and so quotable Sarah pointed out my spouse cuz we watched it together when he goes you're dealing with an a-lister now bro what's funny is in that moment Michael Stars the a-lister not wasn't Captain America yet he wasn't he done Human Torch and she's all that but like he wasn't Big Time movie star yet so pretty funny now and wretched donut audio video She's All That hey Paul I don't think all of them are but the main ones are too that's actually Chris Evans stunt double audio audio Whose Line Wallace skateboard sells a big fan that actually happened to Edgar Wright apparently who was it yeah she met someone from a band that he liked and said that tell him he was a big fan in the person from the band responded with that why wouldn't you be that's hilarious another fun fact about the video game the stage leading up to Lucas liew end up in a few different green screens where aliens attack you and you fight them off and then a director runs by that's supposed to be a direct audio that's a a video game version of Edgar Wright which is pretty fly I not heard of this band it's a band called the hives audio audio apparently said that verbatim you're right it is so much more famous now then my favorite part that are in the Sun Blister in the Sun Violent Femmes the high that they did I can't think of the song now but it was a huge head it was in like the bent mm I hate to say I told you so they also did Tick Tick boom which is a very good song that we love you that did not care for my favorite part though of the the scene with Captain America is how like after he dies you just hear the director in the background he's like Alright that's a wrap people are just unfazed by any of this whatever the pictures done there's this movie I'm glad we got the fun stuff of it and defensive is there's so many little things that you can watch it a couple times and I do like all the little Jabs about filming in Toronto yeah my favorite Easter eggs are the numbers before after every axe ordering every acts like number 2 on on Lucas leaves car the form of the club of course God wearing the 3 or the points that every boss whenever is there thousand points 2000 points abreaction 2000 points and then like for the having twins it's 5,000 going up to 6,000 cuz they're five and six when they died the points are going up and up from 5000 to 6000 yeah I thought all of those little knobs were nice to know the coins and and then like I always notice the transitions but after Ash mentioned them like the transitions are so Flawless in this movie like my favorite one he first sees Ramona and it's just a baseline from garbage truck and redundant Scott and then jumps to the band practice from Kim yelling at Scott on the stairs is so seamless Owosso or fun fact audio the the words on screen like this one girl about to explode evil acts like all of those words like the bubble words that would show up those are titles of actual chapters or books from the Scott Pilgrim hookstraten yeah I like this one this one girl Fizz from the book yeah all of the every time you saw the the Bold thick text that was like a sentence or phrase Israel pulled from from the chapter titles or something that's very cool is one that was named after a Smashing Pumpkins infinite sadness DJ Khaled yeah those are all the chapter names and then the Black Box bubbles like Scott years 21 that's from the book as well like when you meet a lot of the Chargers for the first time that black box with like their details shows up I caught them I caught some foreshadowing this time around I've never noticed before so there's actually a lot of it when him and knives are doing a second time they're doing like the Ninja Dance game and Scott just isn't really into it and then negative I've never beat up and then knives to the phrase don't beat yourself up that's good I caught which I've never caught before was a Scott and Ramona are talking and he's telling her about his ex went away and started dating someone named Todd and she's like yeah used to date someone named Todd too and then cut to the feeling later and there's two my favorite one is always going to be start the fight yourself with seven evil ex boyfriends exes like that correct yeah... I always love I think that's another thing I caught that I've never called before and again I do enjoy again I love a lot of the word is doesn't mean anything I feel like at this point the word tipster doesn't mean anything but I love a lot of that culture is which I also like Legos Parts aspects of it and I caught two lines two or three lines that I don't think I ever noticed before most of them come from I think the guy's name is como como como como who is coming into at the very end of the cast theater if you listen you hear him go besides talking to group of people Ascot storms into the Cascade it goes yeah but the first album was way better than there automatic thing he has to say over and over and then and then Young Neil has one when Clash of demonhead they literally just watch them play take us to nice like all that was so amazing in his like automatic trunk Chico's yeah the comic book the movie is good for the comic book was better commenting on what they're making I'm a huge new girl fan so every time I'm like oh my God is the guy from New Girl audio I'm just distracted about that so I'm never listening to what he's saying what's your favorite so here's a little trivia the first fight against Matthew Patel holds a special place in my heart to Sarah nose who plays Matthew Patel I don't remember how they know each other at either they were in school together they worked on like they work together on a benefit or something but like they know each other acquaintances and so like I've been hearing about him since and after the movie because he's been on other stuff too so that one kind of hold a special place in my heart but add some music nerd I think the bass battle is my favorite because the whole lead up to the Todd Ingram stuff is great baseball is great cuz so there's a part where we were saying before like play poorly on purpose to smoke Stars actually good bass player in that scene and see that they show Scott plant his hands alot They Don't Really zoom in on on Brenda Rouse hands much but there's a time where before Brandon Ralph likes finishes him he lifts his guitar and puts it back down and that's very clearly omage to rock band which that spoofing because rock band turn on Your Story Hour you would have to lift your instrument and I just love that I do like that part of whatever the first Baseline brand of rough plays in response to I know I really really like that anyone else rewind the Clash of demonhead song so good so good my favorite is the fight with the vegan guy just because the jokes are still good and the fact that the vegan police come in and they have finger guns and then actually like a leave they like sci-fi actors to and they're both uncredited they're not they're not in the formal credits their uncredited IMDb and I don't know why they're not credited it could be because of the time Thomas Jane has been Punisher already so maybe there's a contract conflict of interest I don't know but they're uncredited which I think is great to the two big character actors who've been on a stuff what is the running away like definitely one of mine all the time audio my favorite line will always be how to the cleaning lady on Monday audio I'd like the she just like I just love that. Cuz she has the weekends off right so Monday audio Brie Larson where she's like being vegan just makes you better than everybody amazing job she's so good about a nice kind person but she plays that likes naughty character so well ESO believably so does Audrey Plaza like I feel like they both anytime there in a scene just a little so good how you doing that with your mouth I didn't see on her the live reading that she did that for the life or your she held up a black Square Shadow soundboard Audrey Powell would have a soundboard salmon breath did you have a favorite fight time is also the vegan fight I feel like what mine was that the fight against the twins via animations really fun and that the moment when they get blown away and start doing the backflip is yes maybe the most over-the-top moment in the movie for me is stick that is so ridiculous like you can tell if they've got like the wires on and there to doin left lives completely different directions that fight I love really because threshold is my favorite sex bomb song it's just such a good Raw it's been angry song I love all the sex bomb songs I can sing along with them I know all the lyrics like they're just I want a full sex will bomb album and we'll never get one but I want okay so I have a question because I don't think I ever realized audio I know but like the bomb that walks audio last name oh I didn't know that I sold in Telugu as my favorite fight just cuz I love Chris Evans so much and he's so even when he's a dick he's so Charming what is like you don't know hey, don't worry about it audio women love that Scott is like does what like a lot of people doing the face of celebrity no matter who the celebrity is you know people sometimes will be like oh my God he's famous punch driver autograph anytime I laugh at a text message I'm just like amazing audio you want to talk about like the filmmaking though like the queen beautiful movie there's so many details like so when he goes in the bathroom and then he reopens the door and that's like a whole year he's in the hallway all sudden that's a real set that they rotated are the shots so that it's like it's not special effects it's actual real practical effects for that shot which is amazing and then like another shot that just has like just amazing detail is when they're on the bus and Ramona and him were talking and she's telling Scott about her exes through the window on Ramona side is a bunch of x's in the background behind her and then Scott's talkin about whether or not they're together turn on his side it's a bunch of hearts that like look old Boca and like out of focus and then when he finally asked her like dating and she says yes perseid turns two hearts too and it's like such a crazy like detail that nobody f****** probably notices you know except for Edgar Wright it's crazy and then like there's just insane lighting effects in this that are also practical like there so many times where somebody says something like like Audrey Plaza when she's like I forbid you to date her and the background lights dim like that's all done practically which is so cool Tanner when they weren't walking up to the Lucas Lee fight and he said some about like yes yeah and then like the sound design to is also just amazing and I feel like it just adds you know a layer to a layer to a layer on everything you know like like in some of the split screen things like the split screen he's talking to Anna Kendrick like opens up and we hear a cash register noise when it opens and then a cash register noise again when it closes she's at work and we're we're just hearing the ambience of her work but it's matching the story storytelling it's it's just for or like when Schnabel and he's like are you still at work she's like I'm just leaving and then I'm coming in and then like there's Aubrey Plaza doing her hair and you expect it to be his sister audio you what delete all these like little setup that kind of payoff as a joke or like subvert your expectations like a really fun the examples that you just gave in the shot of Anna Kendrick waving from outside like sorry I had to go there's a poster next to her that says experience what attention to detail taste like which is meant just for it's an Easter egg for people who are paying attention to the details in the ceiling it's crazy what Edgar Wright has put in this film it's bananas is so my dick add to keep thinking how life is beautiful to look at like all these different frames and shots and like the yeah one of my favorite special effects transition shots is when MD call Scott for the first time and they're talking and it depends and slowly becomes from his wall so the the multiple photos like from a photo machine of the two of them and it's like Nat as Natalie like with her hair down and like it shows the story of her leaving through those photos it's just like an you could completely missed if you're not looking at it and it's done yeah it's such a amazing good job with Lake the subtlety and how they did like her hair and makeup is she still look the same and like the way she carries her face like you can see her character change without having a scene of it like without her like moving phenomenally well. thoughtfully. or like Ramona mentions that Todd like punches a hole in the moon for her and you can actually see the hole in the Moon in the shop whenever there's a full moon it's just not like it's s*** that you wouldn't early notice or one detail that I really like to is at the end Gideon sword whenever he sweeps past something with it it turns all 8 buddy I'd like those by or whatever like just crazy details that it's just it's insane. He's an insane person I don't know how he does what are my other favorite scenes is the final battle where apparently the trivia for that like the scene where when Scott's fighting Gideon the second time and they they cross-eyed swords many pull them close and goes hey MMA back off each other apparently what's his name who plays Gideon oh yeah get that seemed like every time they got in close in England hey like they both just lost it like they shouldn't like they just didn't get that scene she plays like slime ball so good looks like why me s*** everything he does has a slimy said that is a personal pet peeve of mine I personally have zero preference if you could call me Pat or Patrick I don't care I know a lot of people like it's important to them my wife because my Katie she's not Kate she's not Katherine audio ask your ass but not call you Ash my mom one time Ashley and I was like listen he doesn't call anyone by their like right name or the same version of their name he calls Kim Kimberly the band name correctly audio audio yeah yeah I got you can call anyone by like I've known people like that don't it a part of me wonders if it's like someone of a conscious thing like a power-play it's really important to get people's names right cuz that's you get something to eat you strong and you just yet I don't care enough about you to to figure this out I would I would feel remiss if we didn't take some time to talk about how brilliant them is used in this movie we talked a little bit about it free divide but like I'd forgotten how many songs aren't on the soundtrack that are just like 8-bit or kestrels and like like background stuff for the transition shots and also they use instrumental garbage truck once when they're in practice they use summertime once and then there a couple songs like when they're in the cast theater the first time that song they're playing doesn't appear anywhere that's just in the movie I forgot how much more music is in the movie that even is on the soundtrack like there's so much music audio with knives right where he like runs into her briefly and that's like it's just very minorly there audio turn Ramona's going with Gideon for the first time Ike in the limo they're laying under my thumb audio good so good and it's not like in your face it's subtle but it adds to the mood and it's weird that they were able to like mesh so many different types of music beautifully and they all and it's funny cuz other movies do that and it's horror hey I think specifically of are the DC movies I've seen there's like a song and it's like literally the text of the scene is the song and like button and I think the difference is in in Scott Pilgrim like under my thumb with playing in the car like in the background of the shot and it wasn't like the volume audio I'm putting my palm-like up to the camera get it get it well if you can see the roots here like you can you can see Edgar Wright 2 baby driver oh yeah every single song in baby driver is like that it's perfectly chosen it doesn't feel like it's in your face but it's also a part of the storytelling and it's just amazing and you can even see the like the start of that here you know it always it's super interesting conjecture too much about it cuz honestly I don't know what everyone's motivations are it but it always seems weird audio these ways to tell a story with the visual with the words and with the sound effects and music like so many movies they don't focus on the whole package and it's like it's it's all about the script or it's all about what's on screen like rarely do you get someone who actually cares about using a medium to its full extent act like that I think it's also hard like from an indie filmmaker perspective like I can't do you have I can't use I can't afford to use the song Under My Thumb so like the idea to even do that is like so far Out Of Reach for me that I don't even think about it but I wish that I could because how amazing would that be if I could use that other tool but that tool is too expensive for me how to get Nintendo to say it's okay to use Legend of Zelda theme that use the Seinfeld Theme when all of that cost a lot of money well I don't know universal theme to how much album sales I know he wrote was attributed by money it was the Expo cuz he wrote them he wrote Nintendo Edgar Wright wrote Nintendo L letters is saying he considered that seemed to be the quote nursery rhyme of this generation audio I wonder how much like how many of those themes Universal already had their hands on with licensing I was just going to say the sound design also is retiring about before we get off music the 8-Bit version or 16-bit version of the universal theme at the beginning to 16-bit logo like into the Zelda theme so good and Yahoo that voice over is no the few pieces of narration they're like real short and quick really seriously I never knew that back on the universal theme what an amazing way to set up your movie like it just goes to show that like Edgar Wright first second the movie start dinos what look and white aesthetic keep trying to achieve and literally every part of the movie is circling back to that and circling back to that story that he's trying to tell I remember seeing that in the theater I just immediately like sitting up in my chair like what you can do that like no audio oh yeah and then two for sure but like it was definitely less common in pop culture than it is now in like I've never seen anyone change a studio slate like that before I feel like this was the first time I ever saw that happen it's much more common now but raises the question of life do they never do it because the studio doesn't like it or like this no one care is much exactly yeah I love stuff like that like as or alive creators of the great things and I love I'm sure we all have had those moments like ass just described not affected it is cool but I like his the moment Ash had is I love that and I've had those moments like reading books reading things where it's like do that or like you can just like stock or narrative funny note to the reader from the author or something like that like commenting on what you just like just like being very tongue-in-cheek and breaking your own fourth wall you at work soon as long as it's good you can kind of do you know I love those moments were all like and do that yeah no way I want to do something like that yes okay like Allison president those are fun moments moments I like the you know like that I know it's supposed to be like a video game but I feel like a lot of the fight sequences also feel very anime and style audio yeah but like very specifically anime I mean like Gideon like pushes his get the shine which is such an anime thing you know lay drill weather like punch and like the profile view of the person flying back from the touch classic anime shots that it's like you could do that like you could make it look like anime or the fight with Gideon at one point dissolves into literally a bunch of Steel frames it's like photos audio yeah I was like a montage of photos and it's like I would have never thought of that what an amazing what is amazing thing is aspect ratio ratio changes breaks every rule audio the first time someone shot a movie with someone breaking the fourth wall and talking to the audience what he was one of the first old film fact is like the way film started was by breaking the fourth wall what is the most famous like little you know like where they call Mike Penny films or nickel films or something nothing bike penny farthing the bike right Nickelodeon Nickelodeon audio they would have liked coming at the screen and it would like freak people out and they run out of the theater or like one of the oldest pieces of Animation was Gertie the dinosaur which lake breaks the fourth wall and like leans into the the audience and like you know interacts with like the person on screen so it's just it's funny how it's like come around so like that's where film started and then it was kitschy and then we got like really cinematic stuff and then we brought the squishy thing back in a cinematic way audio that's that whole cyclical like everything's cool till it's not audio audio oh my God that whole conversation starts off this roller coaster sound design to like my favorite thing is like a lot of Executives I assume we're like oh people understand that you have to explain it to them there no explanations those movie white people turn into change why it says KO why why they're special effects and Super Saiyan vegan like I don't spell it out for the audience and I don't know anyone who is not understood that even someone who doesn't play a lot of video games or watch anime still get that because it's so kind of easy to understand especially based on like the way the sound design is each hit and feel the Kayo's every time they happen to feel so video game in the Bestway like I love all the sound effects in this movie as well they're done so well and so cleanly I think a lot of the story wooden I asked if you took the soundesign away attract majorly from the story he read it might be harder to follow just because the sound design is Sookie in a lot of those moments I'm wondering if the video game aspect love it works so well because of how they set it up with the universal thing like that like that is set up as a video game so that sets the tone for the whole movie kind of like in The Princess Bride like it's a very realistic story for the most part but then the grandpa says like there's a story about love when is even a miracle and so that's why when they bring Wesley back from the dead you're accepting of it you were warned ahead of time that there was a miracle I was going to happen the setup for for people like my mom if you went into that movie okay it's one of these instead of like the regular level happens and then all of a sudden she's like I don't get it why is he floating Fireballs what's going on here why did he turn into coins I don't get this I don't like it so I'm really sorry too real by having a personal moment of Revelation over here because of the because bring them go to the dinosaur audio and my mind is blown because you guys Hollywood Studios there is a like an ice cream stand Studios that is Agi brontosaurus sculpture it's f****** gritty wow Tumblr like Oma's tutu like the birth of animation and it's in this you know like in Disney which is like foundational animation so it's ya sorry curious if anyone else felt this way while watching this movie but like I got serious like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Vibes like I feel like I go right might have been in here the shots of them on the swing set and you know on the ice are very reminiscent of the shots in Eternal Sunshine on the ice like the lighting and the shot variation is very similar and like you know some of the themes or a little similar to oh yeah it was because Eternal Sunshine did come out before this so I just checked how far before this A2000 oh yeah six years so time yeah I'm telling you he saw the movie and he was like that's it audio I love that's swing I like that swing seeing and listen before it because like him hitting his head against the telephone pole in the stock in words showing up like that that sound design but also be vocalized a lot of comedy in the sound of Zion or even when they're walking to the club and Ramona's ask him about his ex is sick what about knives I love by the witness stand at the party and like they're all just having a terrible time but like very subtly in the background Kim is just standing there like Larry audio there's like these surreal moments with him and Ramona that are very much like The Surreal moments in Eternal Sunshine as well where it's like these weird dreamy moments that are like they don't feel like the same style as the rest of the film they're like weird and surreal Andre being there floating through the store trivia on that so the reason I feel so disconnected is cuz the movie was supposed to be much longer but they had to cut it for time and for better Arrangement but in like she says briefly a why are you in my dreams others is convenient stretch of Subspace Highway that runs through your head I guess you don't have that in Canada Comics it's a big deal like the Subspace Highway isn't is like this transitional Dimension where you can travel a long distances in a short. Of time and doors with stars on them get you to them shallow it's a big part of a comic but in the movie they only used it as like scene change moments and they barely explain it because it's true that you don't really need to understand it to know why that's happening like you just accept it the other stuff Subspace highways this thing that runs through the dreams of other people that's why Scott keep seeing her because she uses is Subspace Highway is it convenient to her Amazon delivery routes audio it's never really explained ethereal plane yeah and that's why I like they use the door like oh don't worry there's a thingy over there a thingy yeah door like its use of so nonchalant about it because its a Subspace Highway she uses that to Trent to travel you're like a weird door thing in an Eternal Sunshine to God has been so long maybe I don't remember audio it isn't it isn't it was recording go watch the show Sunshine New York like it's such a good movie but it's so depressing what kind of shity right that's pretty much everyone sucks it's kind of a dick knives is the only also is imperfect but is doing the best he can Jamil has never done wrong a day in his life the scene where he's talking in the beginning there's something in the Gameboy Advance lot it's I think it's a dinner table or one of the other scenes where and where the DS game goes there's nothing in quicksand audio when are the table yeah Russell Lovelace callbacks within this movie happen so much some so close together like the first thing we're talking about a cool knives is like they do the same conversation twice like back to the part where you said noises cool yeah she's awesome and then Stephen whistles like that whole rotation happens twice and they do things like that later in the movie to where moments are repeated in a different way question 4 specs so did he just orgasm her to death is that what happened also problematic over there yeah that that whole fight with Roxy is better in the comics but I don't think is less problematic like I haven't read the comics in a really long time and I think after this I might reread them cuz I haven't while but I feel like Vikings in the comics like so they hint that Stephen Stills and Julie are dating in the comics the reason Steven and Julie breakup is Steven realizes he's gay he's gay and falls in love with another man because his boyfriend threw the rest of the comics but they never touched on that movie because there's not enough time and so yeah it's you know the Todd fight is more drawn-out and then everything pretty much after Todd is completely different in the comics everything we need have to Todd I'm more or less seeing for seeing similar but everything after Tod is resolved differently like yeah the did the fights are a lot less cut-and-dry sloppy and unlike more it shows more of like both the growth and less growth of Scott and like expands the characters different leaks a lot of the women in this movie don't have anything to do except be an access Scott someone who hates God audio Meow Mix there are there are the elaborate more on Scott's love life and it's past in these characters and so they audio ask to 2-hour movie use less time to do that so you have the time to flush that out over an entire cow who was the one that was supposed to have robot arms class if she has bandages on her arms in this which is a fine Tribute every drummer girl girl drummers do hate each other imagine you're watching this movie and we get to the last scene audio Ramona just walks away and knives end up together would that make you feel I don't know why you just said that Oak City alternate ending audio how do I change the I kind of maybe better because like I kind of like the idea of him not ending up with Ramona being tired getting in a fight with set up that way or like oh they work so great together and then they have that moment after they beat yeah it like for him to like realize for him to have that moment of life oh I do work well with this person that I had all along that I was taking for granted you know I do like the date the with any of the gave her they gave her the line like I'm too cool for you like she really is way better than totally Scott so whiny and sucks in also The X Factor I think that's probably why people didn't like that ending it was cool when it I was kind of cool when it was a joke like haha you're dating a teenager but it's not serious but then if you end the movie with him being serious with the teenager like no audio it is okay in Korean audio like the alternate ending I think works also but honestly I think the better ending would be Scott ending up with nobody because unlike women realizing they don't need him it was a classic the end of the day even though it wasn't woman as fries explicitly he was a romantic comedy and they were the main couple of the movie the majority of it so for them to end apart audio I also do love the lead-up to that with Nega Scott and they just become buddies like it's such a brilliant way of the mirror match is a big thing of video games like a stuff like Mortal Kombat in Street Fighter always have those or you'd fight your duplicate is like a second to last boss and so have that happened in the incoming we're actually pretty great guy like to play I read the text of that seemed literally is they walk out of the room like what happened you like yeah he's a nice guy like Scott's The Villa audio I will say I think for it to be a happy ending for Ramona audio needs a good guy at her life Asterix because like Scott isn't the best guy ever but like in comparison Steven says like oh that's so sad that I'm the nicest guy you've ever dated but like she needs that and so that makes it a happy ending for her which is good yeah I don't know that I'm necessarily thrilled about the ending either way apparently people really the original ending up the screen yeah they tested it and it did poorly apparently but I don't know I don't know that I care one way or the other I think they're both okay ending audio people are very resistant stories that breaks the mold when they first come out and I think like no spoilers or anything but I think Last of Us 2 is a great example of that where I think it's amazing storytelling and they did not give you the Hollywood I gave you a more Nitty Gritty real life version of revenge and people don't respond well to that when when it first happens you know when people are first trying to break the mold can you find said break the mold I don't know why I went to Being John Malkovich how much did the test audience hate that movie I know my God yeah probably I don't know that's a good example I keep thinking about it I don't think I'd be really tempting I think I would I would be really tempted to have they're not be like any kind of basically the three of them just kind of being friends at the end going to be friends is there always have to be audio yeah it will end in so much of this is built on like everyone self worth is determined by being a Scotsman in like a funk NB dumped him or whatever and we need another person to get him out of signal you should be able to get out of that like love yourself before you love someone else how to make fruit wine yeah where it's like maybe what we need to know we all help each other grow as the three of us will help each other grow like nice as mature and become more comfortable with herself Scott Israel is what s******* he's being is not into his kind of free of this like coxey's toxic relationships what kind of help each other get there but you don't have to have a romantic can be like maybe we just needed to be there for each other maybe you know and just kind of and then they form enough band what's the and I feel like that that kind of ending or the one where he ends up with knives might have been attending that people liked today I think this is where we land on how things have changed in So Little Time honestly but like the the 20 or the 2010 was totally in all of the weird like internet toxic culture gamergate nonsense was still below the surface like not yet non in the public eye and even at the core of it be Scott did all the stuff he was supposed to do why isn't he with Ramona like is the sort of argument that you could I could totally see someone making in earnest back then. Evenflo today without being you know ride a little bit I think I'm sorry I'm just going to keep harping on it cuz it's so good I think it's the same thing with Last of Us 2 or it's the toxic Mel Mel you know gave her son because it's a video game that is centered around female protagonist and and female there's a lot of female lead characters and there's even transgender characters and I think the toxicity of of the gamer World unfortunately is still very much a problem audio I think it comes down to a lot of the loudest voices are straight white men and they still think men and women can't be friends and that men women only have relationships you can't be your your lover can't be your best friend it's just the old ball and chain like all that kind of stuff still exist Society on a high-level that a lot of that stuff still won't fly but through the lens of sexuality and gender in 2020 even though we still have a long way to go unfortunately there are definitely some things in this movie the fall short when put against that this wasn't made today was made then now their arguments that there's plenty of media from 2010 I think that also still was fighting against that Norm but that doesn't mean that's okay but it's it's important to recognize these problems and I think we've done a fair share of doing that you know and I agree with Brett I think Brett is absolutely right the ending where they're friends of the ending where it's with knives would fly much better today because we're paying more attention you know we understand relationships differently and it's something that might have done better now but at that time to grow like no he's going to get the girl yeah, the one with knives with M that great today so even though even if it's clinical technically legal that's true I wonder how that played in Canada that's not the case audio is the age of consent in Canada 16 audio they thought they were being like super like safe About It by moving it one year past that audio difference of the buffer year and everyone in the US just like yeah I feel like that's like a cultural thing like I don't think that that's necessarily as weird as we feel it is as in other countries we are also much more proof country than most others it doesn't bother me in this movie at all I think because he's not really like a gross pervy character and she's not like trying to just have sex with her so doesn't really bother me and it's honestly not that much of an age difference like when I think about like the maturity level of a 17 year old and a 22 year old like they're pretty on par probably a senior in high school 22 is a college graduate iceycat at young age it's weirder I think when you get older it doesn't matter with my spouse what it is I think it also depends on where you are in life right like yeah experience what kind of person you are and we do see by the end of the movie and it's important knives is absolutely more mature it's got even after that burst of immaturity where she dyes her hair and she's calling she comes around so quick quicker than stock at that moment she still teaching Scott in that last moments of the movie will in like how is that any different from a freshman dating a senior in high school like that's like the same age that happened in my school SOS single year makes a difference like I don't think it it's a no it's it's the it's at its age range like people five years younger than like totally probably on the same wavelength of people 5 years older than me I remember when I was 22 scores are so goddamn annoying I got a better equipment would be a high school senior dating an middle schooler 5 yeah there are hardlines I guess was like hard lines and I'll be like the legal age is right and then there's kind of like gray area lines in Ozark personal preference I don't remember him being a senior in college and thinking like Women's College World Series audio I think it's perspective in life experience and learn a lot every year until you hit your 30s and then you think you know everything and then you had your forties and find out you don't know shitt and so I'm told go and it goes on and on he doesn't freak me out cuz I was a high schooler who dated someone who is outside of high school so it doesn't feel weird to me I don't know how much older was boots that's not the fruit you don't know that's okay I don't know the other group text yeah so I don't know what to me it's like not that weird I don't know really happens and I really realistic I guess I have a different perspective on it which is like I dated somebody a year older in high school suddenly broke up he got older but he kept dating girls the same age so like I said so it's like I don't know that's my association with it is like creepy yeah well stated was creepy to it as it's like yeah it is he is he a 22 year old dating someone 5 years younger than him or will he become the thirty-year-old dating someone the same age like right it raises questions in about people more than a specific scenario being weird another we've beat that dead horse like three times I feel super loved it it's one of the first movies in a long time that has just like made me excited to watch it like not just like excited to put it on but like I'm in the middle of the movie and I'm like excited that I'm actively watching it super fun so well done like great energy just like a great feel good no consequence movie that I highly recommend is there some dated stuff but it's not so egregious that like it's a deal-breaker oh my God Matt did you change your shirt to another yeah I don't even talk sorry very much enjoyed it On movies or call out all the stuff that's wrong with it but I think it's important to be able to acknowledge that and just talk about it and it makes you aware and conscious of your percent I can see someone who maybe if we're getting like new listeners or someone doesn't really get like while you just like talk so much s*** about like half the time was talking s*** and I think it's important to make that distinction nothing is all 100 0ood or 100ad like I really like this and I love watching it it was very fun to watch it was very enjoyable watch and it's okay to say that Nelson Point Outlet yeah this is this weren't weren't cool weren't the best but overall you know a lot of fun in times like these are malicious intent or just you know different societal evolution very fun. Thank you for strong-arming in the door making us do this and I'm really glad we did I enjoyed it Elsa Pat you said there's no such thing as 100 0ood movie sorry alien yeah audio I just watched alien again as of the day I'm a supporting audio joining our fellow Network show real movie critics versus the city guy look an alien meme wonder why they think that movie marathon alien and then tomorrow I got to watch a color out of space that Nick Cage one audio I've ever seen a weird picture our guest sign oh yeah obviously haven't washed it don't make me start talking about science oh have you ever really didn't like the sex scene know I've seen it I just very few people I feel like that as a problem with the entire premise but obvious problems with that audio audio yeah I feel like talking about the things that are problematic that you can Overlook and the things that you can't and I honestly feel like the only at the end of the day of the only really like still malicious comments in the movie with everything anyone said about knives that's probably never going to change the most that stuff was just like oh that was unnecessary everything else is movie was hilarious and fantastic the fights acrobatic fighting I just love how much special effects and animation or in this movie subtly I mean not-so-subtle you in that one fight but there's a lot of stuff going on in this phone it was just as fun now as it was when we watched it the first time honestly like this is a movie that has aged I will definitely watch it again I I love it still it's so fun I feel like every time I watch this movie I'm like I forgot how good this movie is it's just amazing again like all of the tools that aggravate uses through the entire movie like every single scene has what feels like its own treatment with something unique and different the other previous scene didn't have which is just it's bananas guys I don't know I mean he spent six years on this film apparently and you can tell so much time on it I guess this is what you get when you spend six years on a movie but yeah it's fantastic but it's as far as like problematic s*** goes it's really not that bad in the Grants Pass movies we've seen on this podcast so I think cuz it's actually a good movie we can hold it to a higher standard that's where I criticism from the place of love my final thoughts on the problematic stuff I do want to point out that Wallace Wells was not a gay stereotype like no list for no flamboyant hand gestures none of the things that were still commonly used at that time he was just a guy who likes guys and that was it I'm like casually having sex with guys like implied none of it was strange or called out or Scott I need my own bed tonight yeah it's super casual and nobody and Scottsdale are you gay sex like there's that one more Scott reacts to seeing the naked witch like what startled anybody I think no matter what he wasn't played for stereotype and I I truly appreciate that I really liked that a lot yeah audio and like the fact that it's this gay man and the straight man living together and sleeping in the same bed and it was no problem not even when he's like drunk did they ever imply one of them is going to try to like get frisky with the other or something like that it's just a friendship and they just happen to share a bed which I thought was like you even see that today which in the 80s or 90s who would have been really played up for corporate lab uncomfortable with that or something uncomfortable with it not even like the other guys but my final thoughts on the movie I'm sure to shocks and nobody is that I still love it I am many things on this network and as a nerd but the top tier are music and video games and this movie seamlessly Blends those two on a level that I've never seen in any other movie before or since some movies get close I think that the new Birds of Prey movie pretty close but not video games but like comic books and music like the soundtrack to that is really good it's another kind of mixtape soundtrack in a similar way or compilation like this is spider-verse also mixes music and M&M movie Super seamlessly I think this will always be the standard I hold all other movie soundtracks 2 and the fact that it seamlessly Blends video games and music nerdery like with references to other bands and like styles of music you know it's just it's it's kind of flawlessly executed on that level I agree with what everyone else is saying the public stuff does standout but I agree with that 100 nerd culture on the hall come for me if you must is that people can't criticize and love something and it's important speak is important is a general conversation understanding and growth and if you can't critique the things you love what's the point audio that's how we learn and that's how we grow in the fact that I can watch this movie now Ten Years Later acknowledged that there's a ton of sexism in it and send some of the homophobia played Flash doesn't really fit like it shows that you are learning and that the media that we consume is learning so Scott Pilgrim still gets two thumbs up definitely recommend Community they might have a different perspective but it's hard to say what is a bi man I can say that I thought I saw the problematic stuff and still think there's a hole in the movie plays pretty well and is done what did you think of just a side note Ezra talking about video game movies what did you think of the Jumanji remake because I thought they made some pretty fun like video game Incorporated things into that movie so unfortunately I haven't seen it yet I want to but I haven't seen it yet yeah I like the original Jumanji but I do want to see it I've heard good things about it and like I love that cast I think that wakes up Kevin Hart he can Fallout 4 Rock I don't care but like the rest of them the rest of them are pretty great and I like The Rock in almost everything cuz he's just Charming as hell so I'll have to see it flooring that this is one of the best representations of video games that's not specifically a video game adaptation of a franchise it's just that the only thing that audio yeah well then you would definitely like the new check it out so are we the only other people in the planet who hate Kevin Hart because I also know I can't he had a bit problematic shed and you might have missed his very very bad couple of weeks on the internet a while back audio Oscar host we made some stuff that we had but I didn't like him I would like different mile bike what's the two things are kind of amusing and then that's all that and I was like yeah that's not cool don't find him and everybody go I think I'm good everybody that was Scott Pilgrim speaking of video games or we can have Matt plug his podcast I mean yeah that happened after what you say when do the pictures come I love that I still doesn't know him and then here and we've released every other week so 52 / 2 x however many years if you don't sit here and stats week 2 are you sure you can argue with the person that ever that is a listener of the show this bed never at oh my God no never likes my jokes anymore I guess I'm done. if I drop any more from that statement audio sorry I love you I wish I could give you a hug in person it was just right there at like you can't you can't if I had that button up from Austin Powers dr. evil button where it was thrown into the pit of flames you'd be there if there was any one of the show who it could possibly rig up a situation like that it probably be you turn on the one person defending you right now that was a cold a deep cut. Thank you for strong-arming in the door making us do this and I'm really glad we did I enjoyed it Elsa Pat you said there's no such thing as 100 0ood movie sorry alien yeah audio I just watched alien again as of the day I'm a supporting audio joining our fellow Network show real movie critics versus the city guy look an alien meme wonder why they think that movie marathon alien and then tomorrow I got to watch a color out of space that Nick Cage one audio I've ever seen a weird picture our guest sign oh yeah obviously haven't washed it don't make me start talking about science oh have you ever really didn't like the sex scene know I've seen it I just very few people I feel like that as a problem with the entire premise but obvious problems with that audio audio yeah I feel like talking about the things that are problematic that you can Overlook and the things that you can't and I honestly feel like the only at the end of the day of the only really like still malicious comments in the movie with everything anyone said about knives that's probably never going to change the most that stuff was just like oh that was unnecessary everything else is movie was hilarious and fantastic the fights acrobatic fighting I just love how much special effects and animation or in this movie subtly I mean not-so-subtle you in that one fight but there's a lot of stuff going on in this phone it was just as fun now as it was when we watched it the first time honestly like this is a movie that has aged I will definitely watch it again I I love it still it's so fun I feel like every time I watch this movie I'm like I forgot how good this movie is it's just amazing again like all of the tools that aggravate uses through the entire movie like every single scene has what feels like its own treatment with something unique and different the other previous scene didn't have which is just it's bananas guys I don't know I mean he spent six years on this film apparently and you can tell so much time on it I guess this is what you get when you spend six years on a movie but yeah it's fantastic but it's as far as like problematic s*** goes it's really not that bad in the Grants Pass movies we've seen on this podcast so I think cuz it's actually a good movie we can hold it to a higher standard that's where I criticism from the place of love my final thoughts on the problematic stuff I do want to point out that Wallace Wells was not a gay stereotype like no list for no flamboyant hand gestures none of the things that were still commonly used at that time he was just a guy who likes guys and that was it I'm like casually having sex with guys like implied none of it was strange or called out or Scott I need my own bed tonight yeah it's super casual and nobody and Scottsdale are you gay sex like there's that one more Scott reacts to seeing the naked witch like what startled anybody I think no matter what he wasn't played for stereotype and I I truly appreciate that I really liked that a lot yeah audio and like the fact that it's this gay man and the straight man living together and sleeping in the same bed and it was no problem not even when he's like drunk did they ever imply one of them is going to try to like get frisky with the other or something like that it's just a friendship and they just happen to share a bed which I thought was like you even see that today which in the 80s or 90s who would have been really played up for corporate lab uncomfortable with that or something uncomfortable with it not even like the other guys but my final thoughts on the movie I'm sure to shocks and nobody is that I still love it I am many things on this network and as a nerd but the top tier are music and video games and this movie seamlessly Blends those two on a level that I've never seen in any other movie before or since some movies get close I think that the new Birds of Prey movie pretty close but not video games but like comic books and music like the soundtrack to that is really good it's another kind of mixtape soundtrack in a similar way or compilation like this is spider-verse also mixes music and M&M movie Super seamlessly I think this will always be the standard I hold all other movie soundtracks 2 and the fact that it seamlessly Blends video games and music nerdery like with references to other bands and like styles of music you know it's just it's it's kind of flawlessly executed on that level I agree with what everyone else is saying the public stuff does standout but I agree with that 100 nerd culture on the hall come for me if you must is that people can't criticize and love something and it's important speak is important is a general conversation understanding and growth and if you can't critique the things you love what's the point audio that's how we learn and that's how we grow in the fact that I can watch this movie now Ten Years Later acknowledged that there's a ton of sexism in it and send some of the homophobia played Flash doesn't really fit like it shows that you are learning and that the media that we consume is learning so Scott Pilgrim still gets two thumbs up definitely recommend Community they might have a different perspective but it's hard to say what is a bi man I can say that I thought I saw the problematic stuff and still think there's a hole in the movie plays pretty well and is done what did you think of just a side note Ezra talking about video game movies what did you think of the Jumanji remake because I thought they made some pretty fun like video game Incorporated things into that movie so unfortunately I haven't seen it yet I want to but I haven't seen it yet yeah I like the original Jumanji but I do want to see it I've heard good things about it and like I love that cast I think that wakes up Kevin Hart he can Fallout 4 Rock I don't care but like the rest of them the rest of them are pretty great and I like The Rock in almost everything cuz he's just Charming as hell so I'll have to see it flooring that this is one of the best representations of video games that's not specifically a video game adaptation of a franchise it's just that the only thing that audio yeah well then you would definitely like the new check it out so are we the only other people in the planet who hate Kevin Hart because I also know I can't he had a bit problematic shed and you might have missed his very very bad couple of weeks on the internet a while back audio Oscar host we made some stuff that we had but I didn't like him I would like different mile bike what's the two things are kind of amusing and then that's all that and I was like yeah that's not cool don't find him and everybody go I think I'm good everybody that was Scott Pilgrim speaking of video games or we can have Matt plug his podcast I mean yeah that happened after what you say when do the pictures come I love that I still doesn't know him and then here and we've released every other week so 52 / 2 x however many years if you don't sit here and stats week 2 are you sure you can argue with the person that ever that is a listener of the show this bed never at
