Pat: As we said before we start rolling Heather thank you for joining us this is our first time back from a little break when I had a new baby nube and.
Ash: That's why he's down in the wine already taking advantage of non baby time.

Pat: Well that's the thing about newborns it's it's a it's a very tricky it's it it's a it's a horrible or Tyrell backed because high wire tight rope its high wire tight rope portmanteau them because with new baby it's you know it's stressful as tiring exhausting already have kids you want to but you can't really get like you don't really want to get drunk though because the last thing you want to be is drunk and waking up at 2 or 3 in the morning till I get a bottle together or something that is that is a fresh fresh hell but.
Ash: Okay.
Sam: Hence why you took the whole glass of wine.
Heather: Oh my goodness.
Heather: So many things.
Bret: That's face. Just like so it's an exit from this trash out at Heather how specific projects how many have you done how many I want to know all of the things that Pat hasn't told me where can people find you what's your favorite thing you've ever written what's your favorite food.

Heather: So I'm editor so I closest closest comparison it's like a showrunner producer for television I you know Source ideas I come up with ideas I find talent I maintain budget schedules deadlines give notes on scripts on arts on colors uncovers interviews marketing projects.
Heather: Yes exactly.
Sam: I just say so you're not busy at all so I bet you super appreciate how we're dragging our feet started.
Heather: Yeah I know it's a lot of coffee and alcohol as you've been saying fat.

Pat: Yes that was actually interesting about that so you at some I always wondered is it want like are you working on one series or you have you can have said 20 concurrent that you're working on.
Heather: Yeah.

Heather: Yeah yeah there's there's a lot and like granted to like that that's this isn't every editor this is also because I'm psycho and can't say no to projects and I'm working constantly all the time always but yeah like I charge of all the all-ages Marvel and Star Wars books as well as I do original content there as well and then when I'm in my free time I am also editing for computer and projects things.
Ash: You don't sound busy.
Pat: This is I'm a little bit of Star Wars than my old fan that's a little bit.
Ash: Oh just a little.
Pat: No I might might my newborn son pretty much lives exclusively and cute Star Wars onesies like that's yes I am love it.
Ash: Maybe she worked on those two maybe.
Heather: No no one says I I don't I've never done apparel.
Pat: Did you did you edit you didn't do the bb-8 they see me rollin onesie.
Pat: Okay.
Pat: Okay.
Heather: No but if you're bb-8 fan I did create his the written language of him so like all the sound effects that you see in the comic books like they created that language for bb8.
Bret: Super Bowl.
Heather: Yeah so.
Heather: Yeah.
Pat: Like the the the that's awesome that's one of those things that people don't think about but it's definitely something that if not done right is very obvious like that doesn't those worked out those letters don't look like that he sounds so that's one of those things where I don't like an art form to it where it's like there's no it's just what's right and this you're probably looking like this doesn't feel right or this does.
Heather: Yeah I know I mean that's almost quite literally how I came up with it was I was working on some tie and stuff like a Pokemon comic we're obviously bb-8 had a starting role and Botox.
Heather: Creature or Droid they actually write what they're saying in English in the script so you know you're reading a script in like oh no that's what you Bonkers like actually saying that we don't hear so the actors know how that you know playoffs that are distilled how to draw or that you know animators know what to do and then it gets translated into speaker things like that and so there wasn't this language for bb8 when I started working on that comic and I literally it and it wasn't a thing that was asked of me it's just a thing that me being the you know anal-retentive nerd that I am just kind of created and lucasfilm found out about it and so can you give us that and then we're going to like make this.
Pat: I.
Ash: Wow that's so cool.
Pat: I love that stuff I definitely spend way too much time and energy on projects doing that when it comes to like a made-up words or made up nothing is just made up there's like a reason to it or it means something or.
Bret: So you're like to be be ba as like Finn diesel was to group you like I am greeted all of the bb-8 stuff.
Heather: Exactly yeah no that's I mean that's exactly at yeah.

Pat: How to say family cuz I've been I've been watching all the Fast and Furious is for the first time so.

Heather: I just did a podcast where I watch them off for the first time and did reactions yep I just did that that's how how I spent the first half of this year.

Heather: That is the one that I quite literally for the life of me cannot remember watching.

Pat: But the movie we are we're not watching Fast and Furious movie the movie We're watching tonight is actually really fitting since we are we are back from a little break of recording we are watching the wonderful animated film where back is it we're back a dinosaur's tail or dinosaur story.

Heather: It's this is exciting.

Sam: I did my I did my research so this movie came out in 1993 which was known as the peak of the dinosaur Renaissance.
Bret: 93 is alright year of the best movies.
Pat: That's also yeah like the patron year of this show.

Heather: Well yeah it's mice I can can I gave my favorite fun fact about this movie I mean you might have it on your yes Steven Spielberg did Jurassic Park but he also did this so.

Sam: Yep they came out the same year they were in production at the same time but this one was advertised as Spielberg's family friendly dinosaur movie.

Bret: So this could have been so many other movies.
Sam: So get this Hanna-Barbera actually owned the original rights to make this a movie from the author of the children's book by the same title and Spielberg wanted to do it as a movie so he got Universal to buy Hanna-Barbera out of the film rights for we're back and not only did Hanna-Barbera want to make that a movie Ron and John from Beauty and the Beast the directors at Disney also wanted to make it a movie until they found out that Spielberg had the rights and they couldn't touch it so one of three yes three movies that the super-hot company amblin Nation amblimation amblimation by don't know company.

Ash: Wow.

Sam: Yeah like amblin entertainment but they had a spin-off company in London that did animated films and it only completed three including we're back yeah.

Heather: Oh my God so they had like three great films.

Sam: Alright so he was an animator at Disney on a bunch of stuff Great Mouse Detective Black Cauldron who framed Rodger rabbit so he's got his animation chops also cool fun fact is this was also co-directed by Simon Wells who directed The Time Machine and.
Sam: Then went on to work after this film at DreamWorks and he worked in The Prince of Egypt flushed away and along with your beautiful co-host Samantha Wilson worked on The Croods so I have met this director and worked with him at DreamWorks Superfund is very nice very humble.
Pat: What was flushed away again.
Ash: Yeah.

Sam: Sondag dick sondag the writers are John Patrick shanea who wrote Moonstruck and doubts and Joe Versus the Volcano so he actually had to do a rewrite of the script because the first one was not going so hot never creative differences and then it's based off the book by Hudson Talbott that I the same name that came out in 87 but dude this cast is a flipping insane cast we've got Star John Goodman.

Sam: Yep and then we have Rhea Perlman who you'll know as the mom from Matilda jayleno is in it and yeah Walter conkright Cronkite.
Heather: My favorite my favorite credit and this Cronkite.

Sam: Yeah yep and we also have Charles Fletcher who was from who framed Rodger rabbit who's the villain and then we have Yeardley Smith who is on The Simpsons so she plays Lisa.

Ash: Yeah I totally remember John Goodman like he's the main thing I remember from this movie.
Heather: It's the one the one yeah the one saying that's the one seeing that everyone remembers looked at my phone and that's all I'll say I won't say which one it is.
Pat: I remember the zero sound from this movie I have lot of visuals I feel like rattling around I remember doing nothing sounds so.
Ash: Yeah I don't know if I remember a specific scene I just really remember his voice this movie for sure yeah okay.
Heather: You'll know what scene it is when I cuz it's because it's the only thing I really remember.
Ash: I'm the only seen I remember and I might be jumping the gun here I don't know Sam if you would more facts or trivia.
Sam: I have a lot more facts I can read but I didn't want to like.

Ash: It's not a fact it's just the only thing I remember about this movie is the end when they're in Central Park and it's not a spoiler but it's like kind of scary it's like a scary night seed and Central Park and that resonated with me so much that as a child I remember being afraid of traveling specifically like to a city and a loan like I think even until I was like in college was I like fearful of traveling alone to a city because they made it seem so scary it was a kid I just remember that and I'm probably going to watch this and be like that wasn't scary at all but it was like I just remember as a kid feeling like this is super intimidating and scary and anything can happen to you in a city and and people are people are trying to kill you in the park or whatever you know.
Heather: I remember every.
Sam: I mean it could be you just finish talking on our end.
Ash: Nope no one else okay cool.
Sam: There's a bit of a lag.

Heather: I remember the like the movie like the embarrass it's like a creepy like.
Heather: Reverse version of everything yeah but.
Heather: I don't know I feel like even as a kid this movie was weird.

Pat: Remember that the ending is borderline traumatizing prices.

Heather: Well that's a lot of kids movies that's a lot of kids movies like I sit and watch you know and I'm just like really you're making this for kids.

Pat: Yeah I am rebuilding that with my girls on like Disney plus watching stuff and feel like this is kind of scary or problematic scary or both like nope nope we're not going to watch.

Ash: Yeah I just remember the end of this movie was it was it was traumatizing for sure.

Sam: And it was very like hot and cold and reviews like certain people like it's so edgy I love it and then other reviewers or like it's terrible and there's no plot in this movie so it's kind of funny but.
Sam: Seventeen magazine listed this in 2017 as one of the best 18 animated films to watch on Netflix.
Ash: Oh wow.

Sam: We could be a first-rate.
Ash: Yeah.
Pat: It says I'm just I'm really excited to watch it because he got interested in our email to ride like that isn't this is a movie that I remember liking as a kid and watch multiple times but I forget it exists all the time like and there's times I'll be reminded of it and like did it actually exists now being validated that does exist.
Pat: Yeah.

Heather: So what should have some point as a kid I don't remember Lake my first exposure to it that you know at all in any way I just remember they're singing dinosaurs in it and like what more do you need you know like freely as a kid that's it you need and and it wasn't until in college I got like I discovered that late and we video and Blockbuster may they rest in peace would sell like you know used DVDs you know cuz when it's a new release you think it 10 of them and then once those two weeks or update cell you know Jada Bell or whatever so I would buy them and like literally I would just buy like 20 DVDs a week and they would sleep.
Bret: Yeah I remember $2 DVDs man I miss those days.
Heather: Right yeah.
Ash: Hahaha.
Heather: Yeah that's all I would do and then I moved to New York and had to get rid of them all because space doesn't exist but I'll never forget the Indus was this was my Lake from memory of this movie one of my really good friends and College Lake had a terrible breakups like terrible terrible breakup and so I was like we're having movie night and like whatever reason this movie came up and I didn't own it and I bought it right away so we can watch it during our movie night you know it's like a cheer up type thing and then we discover this movie.
Sam: Is that I didn't look at the running time.
Heather: It's very short.

Pat: It is only an hour 12.

Sam: Yeah I mean Sleeping Beauty is only like 65 minutes or something crazy.

Sam: It's like some Richard Williams level s*** and he's the guy that did the thief and the cobbler and they animated the background characters the crowds were fully animated they're like kids in the background playing basketball and they were just beautifully animated in like a really limited character design like that's why you would watch this is if you're studying animation because holyshit guys this was an expensive f****** movie.

Bret: Totally unlike most of that like that's the hand-drawn stuff but there is almost like a full minute or two minute-long segments the 3D fly through of New York in 93 can you imagine how much that cost to render like.

Ash: And I will say the 3D animation fit really well with the 2D like it didn't ever feel like there it is there's the 3D.

Pat: Yeah it was just I am still Blown Away to buy by Heather's discovery that the whole alien going back in time to think that is Canon and I'm like that's just so needlessly complicated as like you can streamline the hell out of this evil scientist trying to like bring dinosaurs and in turn them into whatever for evil machinations purposes something goes wrong and they get loose the New York and they befriended kid and he like helps them find their place.
Ash: Or you could start it at the Museum maybe they're like you know models at the museum that hit turn into real dinosaurs.
Pat: Why aren't they telling the kids at the Museum the story what's the bird thing is so wild.
Ash: Yeah yeah.
Pat: How come the birds can talk to the birds get the brain drain.
Ash: I don't I don't know that's a good question I do all animals now have the brain drain like they just gave it to all animals on the planet now.
Pat: So it's like that worm to they're going to eat so they're going to eat a sentient worm.
Ash: Aren't all.
